Earlier this month, the GAMMA Indonesia member federation, Federasi Olahraga Beladiri Indonesia (FORBI) partnered with the Soma Fight Club in Bali, Indonesia to deliver a GAMMA Judges and Referee Workshop on the eve of the first officially sanctioned MMA bouts in the province.
Led by Head of FORBI’s Referee Committee Zuli Silawanto and Bali representative Wallie Teo, the workshop provided participants with the latest information on GAMMA rules and regulations. After completing the workshop, the participants were officially accredited as FORBI referees and judges.
The following day, the new officials were able to put their skills and knowledge to the test at the fourth Soma Fight Night at the sold-out Kuta arena in Bali. The Soma Fight Night featured three forms of combat (MMA, boxing, and K1), with all MMA bouts taking place under GAMMA PRO rules.

The workshop and practical experience were highly valuable for the officials and will pave the way for future MMA events to take place in Indonesia with top-level officiating.
The first officially sanctioned MMA bouts in Indonesia not only helped develop the sport in the country but also gave local athletes much-needed preparation ahead of the GAMMA World Championships in Amsterdam this 23-27 March.
Going forward, the extension of a partnership between FORBI and Soma will create additional opportunities for sanctioned events in the country.
