The Global Association of Mixed Martial Arts (GAMMA) has announced that the upcoming Asian Championships in Thailand have been expanded to include athletes from the Pacific Island countries. The event has been renamed as the 2022 GAMMA Asian-Pacific MMA Championships and will take place as originally scheduled from 9-13 November 2022 in Pattaya.

The decision to expand the event was taken by GAMMA after several members requested the opportunity to take part in the Championships and the Local Organising Committee led by President of the IFSA General Taweep Jantararoj and Vice President Achilleus Ralli confirmed that it would be possible. This is the first time that Mixed Martial Arts Athletes from the Pacific region will have the opportunity to compete at a GAMMA Continental Event and it has been welcomed by members in both regions.

β€œI would like to thank the Mayor of Pattaya Poramase Ngampiches and the organisers in Thailand for their willingness to integrate our Pacific Island members into the Championships next month. This is only the second edition of a dedicated championships in the region, and I am delighted that we will have an expanded event,” said GAMMA President Alexander Engelhardt β€œIt is very encouraging to see the interest from our members to compete at our events. I am looking forward to a fantastic competition and to have this opportunity to bring our GAMMA family together again.”
