Mixed Martial Arts in Central America is set to get a boost when the very first Central American Championships MMA Championships will take place in San Juan del Sur on the southwest coast of Nicaragua from 12 to 17 July 2023.
This is an extremely important step for the development of the sport across Central America and the organisers are hoping it will be the first of many events in the region. Seven countries are expected to compete in the limited three weight category programme. In the future, the hope is to grow the event to include more categories and a dedicated youth competition.
The support of GAMMA has been especially valuable for MMA in the region and the efforts to provide support and assistance to its Central American Members is now coming to fruition with this first event.
GAMMA President Alexander Engelhardt was very pleased with the announcement of the event. “Developing the sport across the Central American region has been one of the focus areas for GAMMA in recent years and I am very pleased to see that there is already the possibility to arrange an international competition in Nicaragua. We have several dedicated Members in Central America who are taking the initiative to develop the sport by staging these events. I am looking forward to many more in the future.”
