The Global Association of Mixed Martial Arts (GAMMA) has announced the first international event of the 2023 season. In conjunction with the GAMMA Member in New Zealand and the support of GAMMA Oceania, the Oceania MMA Championships 2023 will take place from 9 to 11 June in Auckland at the Due Drop Events Centre.
This will be the first GAMMA event staged in Oceania and provides another opportunity for athletes from the region to compete internationally after the inaugural Asian-Pacific Championships which took place at the end of 2022 in Thailand.
More than 200 athletes from Australia, Cook Islands, Fiji, New Zealand, Samoa, Tonga, and Tuvalu have already been confirmed to compete with more to follow in the coming weeks. The event will include MMA and Striking MMA and will give the opportunity for up to four winning athletes to compete at a ONE Lumpinee event.
Speaking about the event in New Zealand GAMMA President Alexander Engelhardt said, “we are very pleased that our member in New Zealand and GAMMA Oceania have been working so well together and are able to host this event. Providing competitive opportunities for athletes remains our priority and we are looking forward to seeing more athletes from the region attend our World Championships after experiencing the Oceania Championships.”
Any athletes looking for more information on the event can contact the GAMMA Oceania organisers.
