For the very first time, GAMMA in conjunction with the Commisión Nicaragüense de Artes Marciales Mixtas, staged the Central American Championships in the third largest city in Central America, Nicaragua.

Already famous for its lakes and volcanoes, the country can now boast about its martial arts talent after staging the successful invitation only event last weekend. The event which took place outside featured three highly competitive weight categories with athletes from seven countries taking part in this milestone moment for the sport in Central America.

Nicaraguan athletes gave the local crowd plenty to cheer about with Enoc Escoto and Diego Aleman winning the 61.2kg and 70.3kg categories, defeating Steven Johan Carmona Echeverria from Costa Rica and Yovanis Decros from Panama respectively, before Costa Rican Barquero Gilberth Alvarado took the honours in the 77.1kg category beating Alvin Thomas Godfrey from Belize.

This first international competition held in Central America was extremely competitive and conducted with a great spirit and respect for all athletes. The entire GAMMA community thanks the organisers and looks forward to returning to the region in the future.
