We caught up with home talent, Gabriela Majerčáková, for a quickfire interview.

How did you get into MMA?  I was 12 years old when I started MMA and since then, I have really loved this sport.

What are your other responsibilities and how do you balance them with training?

I’m in the first year of high school and I have individual arrangement with the school, which means I can go in just to sit exams so that I have more training time. I discuss planning my time with family, who I am close with, so it’s great.

What is the biggest challenge you have had to overcome and what keeps you motivated?

When I had an injury that occurred at the GAMMA Championships in America. I couldn’t train for eight months, and my family and coach helped me the most.

What are you aims at the Euros and how are you approaching training?

So I definitely want to win the gold medal and I’ve been preparing for it for a long time, so I believe I can do it!

What would earning another medal for Slovakia mean to you?

It would mean a lot to me and for my country that at such a young age I can do something as big as winning a medal at the championships, and that I can add another medal to my collection.

What are your ultimate goals in MMA?  To go as far as possible.

Do have any other hobbies or special interests? I love reading and swimming. I read every day and I try to swim whenever I can.
