2023 GAMMA World Champion (65kg), Majid Corbitt of Team USA

Team USA boasts a stellar line-up among its 18-athlete team heading to Argentina to compete in next week’s 2024 GAMMA Pan American Championships taking place in Rosario from 5th to 7th July.

Registered teams for the three-day nations’ continental tournaments in MMA and Striking MMA include: Argentina, Belize, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Uruguay and USA. Hosted by GAMMA ARGENTINA (Asociacion Civil con Personeria Juridica de Artes Marciales y Deportes de Combate), the championships will be live streamed internationally from Club Náutico.

Among the women, American standouts include two Invicta Fighting Championships signees Zoe Nowicki and Fallon Johnson.

2023 GAMMA World Champion, Nowicki holds a string of wrestling accolades including as two-time NCAA and WCWA Women’s National Champion, five-time NCAA/WCWA Women’s Wrestling All-American and U.S. Open Wrestling All-American. She has represented her nation twice in the discipline as U23 National Team Member and was a 2021 Olympic Team Trials Qualifier. With a 7-0 amateur record in MMA and the title of Lights Out Amateur Flyweight Champion, Nowicki is now professionally contracted to Invicta FC.

Two other females on the team notably earned medals in the 2023 World Combat Games in Pankration: Madeline Schellman (-72.6kg) achieved a Gold medal at the Games in Saudi Arabia. With a background in amateur Muay Thai fighter she holds 4-0 record and the Georgia Muay Thai welterweight title. She is also a jiu jitsu purple belt “and has competed and won gold in many jiu jitsu tournaments in the Atlanta area, including IBJJF and National Fighting Championship (NFC) jiu jitsu competitions.” Attaining aBronze medals in the World Combat Games, Taylor Kleemoff (-65.8kg) comes with base in wrestling and BJJ.

Meanwhile, Samantha Buttery (-65.8kg) returns as 2023 GAMMA World Bronze medallist.

Among the men, athletes highlighted by GAMMA USA are headed by 2023 GAMMA World Champion (at 65kg) Majid Corbett. Corbett (pictured above) NCAA All-American Wrestler who stands undefeated in MMA with an amateur record of 13-0.

Dearion Stokes (-65.8kg) boasts an impressive track record across wrestling and MMA. In wrestling he is NJCAA District Champion, NJCAA National Qualifier (losing in the Blood Round), NAIA National Qualifier and NAIA All American (5th place). With a record of 8-0 and 4 finishes in MMA he has won four amateur championships in the United States to date (with Dynasty Combat, Ignite and Matador Challenge.) He is ranked as#1 Amateur Bantamweight in Illinois, a state with a deep talent pool, #2 in the Midwest and #2 in North America, according to Tapology. He has competed twice in boxing with a record of 1-1.

Gabe Muscat (-77.1kg) has a mixedamateur MMA record across nine bouts, mainly accrued on the international circuit, but he has shown to be a dangerous striker with a19-3 record in boxingand3-0 kickboxing.  While Island Fights Champion Spencer Rivas has been touted as one for BJJ fans to watch with rare submission wins in MMA competition via Buggy Choke & Twister.

In the Under-18s, GAMMA USA is entering three return medallists who all achieved success in the 2023 GAMMA U18s World Championships in Greece. The two returning champions are gold medallists Dalton Riggs (-63.5kg) and Stary Maxwell (-70.4kg), alongside world bronze medallist James Weaver (77.1kg).
